Update two-factor authentication

Need to update your phone number or set up a new app? You can complete these steps while you still have access to the phone number or current authenticator app.

If you don't have access to the phone number or authenticator app you set up previously, contact us at help@clickup.com.

What you'll need

  • Individual members and guests can enable 2FA on their accounts on any ClickUp Plan.

  • Requiring 2FA for everyone in a Workspace is available on our Business Plan and above.

  • 2FA using an authenticator app is available on any ClickUp Plan.

  • 2FA via SMS is available on our Business Plan and above.

  • You'll need to be able to log into your ClickUp account using your current 2FA method. If you aren't able to log into ClickUp at all, please contact us!

Update your phone number used for 2FA

In order to update your 2FA settings, you'll need to be able to log into your ClickUp account. You can follow the steps to update your phone number when 2FA is required by a Workspace you've joined or own.

  1. Log into ClickUp.

  2. Click your account avatar in the lower-left corner.

  3. Select My Settings.

  4. Click the pencil icon.

  5. Update your phone number.

  6. Click Send code.

  7. Enter the verification code sent to your device.

  8. Click Set up.

  9. Click Save changes.

  10. Next time you log in, a code will be sent to the new phone number.

Update your authenticator app used for 2FA

In order to update your 2FA settings, you'll need to be able to log into your ClickUp account.

  1. Log into ClickUp.

  2. Click your account avatar in the lower-left corner.

  3. Select My Settings.

  4. Click the toggle to disable 2FA using an Authenticator App (TOTP).

  5. When prompted, click Yes, disable.

  6. Click the toggle to re-enable 2FA using an Authenticator App (TOTP).

  7. Either scan the QR code or manually enter the code provided in ClickUp.

  8. Enter the verification code provided on your device.

  9. Click Set up.

  10. Click Save changes.

  11. Next time you log in, the new or updated app will be used to generate a code.

Update your authenticator app when 2FA is required

When 2FA is required by a Workspace you've joined or own, you can update your authenticator app, but you'll need to set up 2FA via SMS.

  1. Log into ClickUp.

  2. Click your account avatar in the lower-left corner.

  3. Select My Settings.

  4. Click the toggle to enable Text Message (SMS).

  5. Enter your mobile number and click Send code.

  6. Enter the verification code provided on your device.

  7. Click Set up.

  8. Now that you have 2FA enabled via SMS, you can update 2FA via authenticator app without removing secure access to your Workspaces.

     

Troubleshooting

You'll need to contact customer support using the email address of the affected account if you:
  • Lost access to your SMS 2FA device and are unable to log in.
  • Lost access to your TOTP 2FA device and are unable to log in.
  • Entered the wrong email address, and can't access the confirmation code.
