Use Talk to Text on the Brain MAX desktop app

Use AI-powered Talk to Text to convert your voice to text completely hands-free in Brain MAX desktop app or any text box. Use it when asking Brain questions, searching the web, composing an email, or writing a document!

If the Brain MAX desktop app is open, Talk to Text is accessible.

Set up Talk to Text

When using the app for the first time, you may be prompted to set up Talk to Text on the Brain MAX desktop app.

Otherwise, you can set up Talk to Text from the sidebar:

  1. At the top of the left sidebar, click Voice notes
    • Alternatively, click the microphone icon on the Home page search bar.
  2. Click Try Talking or Start dictating.
  3. Follow the prompts to confirm fn as your Talk to Text shortcut, or change it to something else.
  4. Follow the remaining prompts to complete set up.

Use Talk to Text on the Brain MAX desktop app

To start recording within any app on your computer:

  1. Start recording:
    • Press and hold fn or your custom shortcut key to start recording. You'll see a movable floating bar on your screen that indicates you're recording. Release the shortcut key to stop recording.
    • From the Home page, click the microphone icon to start recording. You'll see a movable floating bar on your screen that indicates you're recording. Click the microphone icon or the Stop button on the floating bar to stop recording.
    • Press Shift + fn or your custom keyboard shortcut to start recording. You'll see a movable floating bar on your screen that indicates you're recording. Press the keyboard shortcut again or the Stop button on the floating bar to stop recording.
  2. Your speech is converted to text and improved using AI, then pasted into the Brain MAX desktop app search bar or wherever else on your computer.

Add names and vocabulary to your dictionary

You can customize how Talk to Text handles specific names and terms on the Brain MAX desktop app:

  1. At the top of the left sidebar, click Voice notes
  2. Click the Dictionary tab.
  3. Add names and words to your dictionary.

You can come back to this page at any time to review your dictionary.

Change Talk to Text settings

Change keyboard shortcuts and output language.

To change Talk to Text settings on the Brain MAX desktop app:

  1. At the top of the left sidebar, click Voice notes
  2. At the top, click the Settings tab.
  3. Customize your Talk to Text settings.

The following customization options are available:

Option Description
Keyboard Shortcuts Hover over a keyboard shortcut to edit it or reset it to its original key.
Audio Update your audio and microphone settings.
General

By default, the output language is automatically selected.

To change the output language, click Automatic and choose a language.

Access previous Talk to Text searches

Access all of your previous Talk to Text searches on the Brain MAX desktop app by clicking Voice notes in the left sidebar.

Copy previous searches

To copy a previous Talk to Text search, hover over the search and click the copy icon.

Play previous searches

To play a recording back, hover over the search and click the play icon.

Export Talk to Text audio, retry transcriptions, and more

To access additional actions for previous Talk to Text searches, hover over any search and click the ellipsis ... icon. The following options are available:

Option Description
Show processed See your search transcripts after they were updated by Brain.
Show transcript See your search transcripts before they were updated by Brain.
Retry transcription Have Brain retry the Talk to Text transcription.
Export audio Export the search audio.
Feedback Provide feedback on the Talk to Text transcription.
Delete Delete the search.
