Search using the BrainGPT Chrome extension

Use the BrainGPT Chrome extension to search ClickUp, the web, or files from your connected apps like GitHub, Google Drive, Sharepoint, and many more.

For example, you could search What is James working on? or Find me the Google Drive files related to release 2.1.3.

Start a search

To start a search using the BrainGPT Chrome extension:

  • In the upper-right corner of your tab, click the ClickUp Brain icon if the extension is pinned. Otherwise, click the puzzle icon and select ClickUp.

  • In the lower-right corner of your tab, click the floating ClickUp Brain icon to open the BrainGPT sidebar. To start a new search, click the New Chat icon in the upper-left corner of the sidebar.

    If you don't see the icon, ensure you have the Show on all domains or Show on this domain setting activated.

  • Open a new browser tab.

    The Brain Home Tab setting must be activated.

Upload images to your search

To upload an image to your search:

  1. Under the search bar, click the file icon.

  2. Select a file to add it to your draft.

Need to ask BrainGPT about an image? Add a screenshot of your current tab to your search:

  1. In the BrainGPT sidebar's search bar, click the screenshot icon.
  2. A screenshot of your current tab will be added to your draft.

Mention assets in your search

To mention assets like tasks, Lists, Docs, and people in your search:

  1. In the search bar, type @.
  2. Type a name, keyword, or phrase from the asset. Results are automatically filtered.
  3. Click the asset.
  4. Add any additional context to your request.
  5. Press Return on Mac or Enter on PC.

Use tools in your search

When you're using Brain as your AI model, there are several tools you can utilize in your search:

  • Web Search
  • Deep Search
  • Write my standup
  • Generate an image
  • Schedule a meeting
  • Project update
  • Summarize

Some of these tools are only accessible when you're starting a new search.

Change AI models

Search uses Brain by default, which includes ClickUp files, the web, and files from your connected apps.

You can change the AI model to ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, but these models don't have access to your knowledge.

To change the AI model:

  1. Start a new search.
  2. Under the search bar, click Brain.
  3. Select a different large language model:
    • ChatGPT:
      • GPT-5
      • GPT-5 Mini
      • GPT-4.1
    • Claude
      • Claude Sonnet 4
      • Claude Opus 4
    • Gemini
      • Gemini 2.5 Pro
      • Gemini 2.5 Flash

Choose where BrainGPT searches

When you're using Brain as your AI model, you can choose which knowledge it searches:

  1. Start a new search.
  2. Under the search bar, click Brain.
  3. Hover over Search, ask, create and click Edit.
  4. Uncheck any apps you don't want BrainGPT to search.

Search connected apps

By default, search includes results from all of your connected apps. If you have the Brain Home Tab setting activated, you can filter results to only one connected app.

To filter search results to one connected app:

  1. Open a new tab.

    The Brain Home Tab setting must be activated.

  2. In the Apps section in the left sidebar, click the app. If you don't see the app, click Show all.
  3. Type your request in the search bar, or press your keyboard shortcut to use Talk to Text.
  4. Press Return on Mac or Enter on PC.
