Connect the Gong MCP server to your Workspace

Connect Gong MCP to ClickUp so your AI tools can pull Gong conversation intelligence into your work. Ask questions about an account or a deal, and generate structured briefs with key themes, stakeholders, risks, and next steps.

This guide covers the one-time Gong setup your Gong tech admin needs to do, then how to connect from ClickUp using OAuth 2.0. Plan for about 5 minutes.

What you need

  • A ClickUp Workspace on a plan that supports MCP integrations
  • A Gong tech admin to create the integration in Gong's Admin center
  • A paid Gong seat for everyone who connects. Collaborator seats can't use the Gong MCP server.
  • Enough Gong credits for your team's queries. Gong charges credits for MCP tool calls.

You must be a Gong tech admin to create the integration. If you aren't one, send this guide to your tech admin. Team members only need their own paid Gong seat to connect afterward.

Step 1: Create the MCP server integration

To create the MCP server integration from Gong:

  1. In Gong, click the gear icon at the bottom of the left sidebar to open Admin center.
  2. In the Settings tab, click MCP under Ecosystem.

  3. Click the MCP Server tab.
  4. Click New MCP server integration.

Some Gong workspaces still show the older path. If you don't see MCP under Ecosystem, go to Ecosystem › API › Integrations, click CREATE INTEGRATION, and select MCP integration. Don't create a standard API integration.

For the full reference, see Gong's guide to enabling supported AI tools.

Step 2: Personal or shared access

On the new integration form:

  1. In Integration name, enter something easy to recognize, like ClickUp.
  2. Under Registration type, select Automatic. Gong doesn't issue a client ID or secret, and ClickUp registers itself when someone connects.
  3. Under Authorization context, pick the level of data access:
    • Personal access (recommended): each person connects with their own Gong login and only sees data they can already view in Gong.
    • Shared access: the integration can reach all of your company's Gong data. Only use this for org-wide reporting use cases.

You can't change the registration type or authorization context after you save. To switch either one later, delete the integration and create a new one.

Step 3: Add the redirect URI

To add the redirect URI:

  1. In Redirect URI, paste ClickUp's callback URL: https://search.clickup-prod.com/connect/gongmcp
Screenshot of the URI per line field.png
  2. Click Save.

The redirect URI must match https://search.clickup-prod.com/connect/gongmcp exactly, with no trailing slash. Without it, Gong rejects the connection from ClickUp.

For the full reference, see Gong's guide to creating an integration for the MCP server.

Connect in ClickUp

To connect the MCP server in ClickUp:

  1. Open the App Center.
  2. Find Gong.
  3. Click Connect to open the guided setup.
  4. Check that the redirect URI shown in ClickUp matches the one your tech admin entered in Gong.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Sign in to Gong and approve access when prompted.
  7. Wait for ClickUp to validate the connection and load your tools.

Personal and Workspace connections

Choose one of two connection scopes during the guided setup:

  • Personal connection: only you can use the Gong tools in ClickUp. Every tool call runs with your Gong identity and permissions.
  • Workspace connection: any Workspace member can use the Gong tools. Each person still signs in to Gong individually and needs their own paid Gong seat. Everyone shares the same Gong integration, but each person has their own authorization.

If your Gong integration uses Shared access, anyone who connects can reach all of your company's Gong data. Consider that before you make it a Workspace connection.

What you can do with Gong MCP

Gong's MCP server is read-only. It can't create, update, or delete anything in Gong.

Tool What it does
Ask account Answers questions about a single account using Gong's conversation data
Ask deal Answers questions about a single deal
Generate brief Creates a structured summary with key themes, stakeholders, risks, and next steps

Limitations

  • Only a Gong tech admin can create the integration.
  • Collaborator seats can't connect. Everyone who connects needs a paid Gong seat.
  • Tool is not authorized for the company. Check that the MCP integration exists and that its redirect URI exactly matches the ClickUp URI.
  • Use Automatic registration. Manual registration issues a client ID and secret that ClickUp's shipped guided setup doesn't use.
  • Use an MCP integration, not a standard API integration. The older API-only flow with scopes such as api:calls:read:basic doesn't work with Gong MCP.
  • Registration type and authorization context are permanent. Delete and recreate the integration if either needs to change.
  • Credits: Gong MCP tool calls consume Gong credits.
  • Private calls are excluded from Gong MCP results.

Disconnect or revoke access

To disconnect the MCP server from ClickUp:

  1. Open the App Center.
  2. Find Gong.
  3. Click Disconnect.

To fully revoke access from Gong, a tech admin should:

  1. Open Admin center and click MCP under Ecosystem.
  2. Click the MCP Server tab.
  3. Open the ClickUp integration.
  4. Delete the integration.

Disconnecting in ClickUp revokes your OAuth token but leaves the integration in Gong, so you can reconnect easily. Deleting the Gong integration disconnects everyone who uses it.
