Use Triggers, Conditions, Actions, and multiple Actions
Set up a Trigger, Conditions, and one or more Actions to create a custom Automation.
Triggers are events that start an Automation. You can set Triggers to apply to tasks, subtasks, or both.
Conditions are criteria that must be true for the Automation to launch.
Actions are the events that the Automation initiates after it is triggered.
Create a Custom Automation
To create a Custom Automation:
- Open the Space, Folder, or List where you want to apply the Automation.
- In the upper-right corner, click Automations.
-
Select a Trigger from the dropdown menu on the left.
-
Click Add Conditions to add one or more optional Conditions.

Choose an Action from the dropdown menu on the right.
-
Click the + button to add more Actions.
-
Click Create.
For example, a project management team has a List with tasks that go through steering committee review before they can begin. The lead project manager creates an Automation to notify stakeholders when a project is accepted.
-
Trigger: When Status Changes from Pending to Accepted
-
Condition: If Due Date is equal to Today
-
Action: Then Add a comment to notify watchers.
The lead project manager adds another Action to create a task in a separate List for project managers to plan and kick off the accepted project.
