Owner, admin, and member-type user roles
This article covers guests. To learn about the other user roles, take a look at our Owner, admin, and member-type user roles article.
Paid plan guests
On paid plans there are two guest types:
- View-only guests: People from outside your organization who only need to view content can be invited as view-only guests.
- Permission-controlled guests: People from outside your organization who need to interact with only specific content can be invited as permission-controlled guests.
Guests can't be invited to a Space. You can invite guests to work with items or locations, like individual tasks, Lists, or Docs.
Owners and admins on paid plans can allow or restrict individual guests from using certain features. For example, you can give a guest access to Time Tracking to track their work hours.
Free Forever guests
On our Free Forever Plan there is one guest type:
- Free Forever guests: These guests can only have the full permissions available for the items and locations shared with them.

Identify the guests in your Workspace
Guests are easily identified by the squares in the upper-right corner of their avatars. The square is green when the person is online and white when they're not.
Owners, admins, and member-type users have a green or white circle in the lower-right corner of their avatars.
See user status
User status indicates a person's availability in the Workspace. For example, they're out of office, have paused notifications, or are on vacation.
You can see a person's status to the right of their name.
If a guest's notifications are paused, there's a z on the white circle in the upper-right corner of their avatar.
