Sidebar Features

The Sidebar is the mission control center for navigating your Workspace.

From the Sidebar you can quickly and easily:

  • Search your Workspace and use Command Center.

  • Access Home, Notifications, and Favorites.

  • Browse the Hierarchy, Dashboards, and Docs.

This article covers all the features and settings available in your Sidebar from top to bottom!

What you'll need

Collapse and expand the Sidebar

Simply click the arrow on the top right corner of the Sidebar. You can also press Q on your keyboard to collapse and expand the Sidebar without touching your mouse!

Sidebar settings

You can manage your experience of the Sidebar from the settings menu. These settings apply to your account for each Workspace.

  • Show archived: Show Archived Spaces, Folders, and Lists in your Sidebar.

  • Expand/Close all Folders: Reveal or hide the Lists in every Folder in the Space you're working in.

  • Layout size & style: Switch between Simple, Clean, and Modern Layouts.
    On Clean and Modern layouts, you can also choose between Compact, Default, and Large text and icon sizes.

  • Dark side(bar): Set your Sidebar to use dark mode leaving the rest of ClickUp on the light side.

To change your Sidebar Settings:

  1. Hover over the top right of the Sidebar.

  2. Click the Sidebar Settings cog icon.

Search your entire Workspace to find tasks, Docs, Whiteboards, and more with our powerful search features!

You can access Search from the Sidebar or from anywhere in ClickUp using keyboard shortcuts.

  • Use Cmd + K on a Mac.

  • Use Ctrl + K on a PC.

  • Click Search in the Sidebar.

Then start typing to search your Workspace!

Command Center

Use commands to create items and navigate through your Workspace.

You can access Command Center from the Sidebar or from anywhere in ClickUp using keyboard shortcuts.

  • Use Cmd + K on a Mac.

  • Use Ctrl + K on a PC.

  • Click Search in the Sidebar to open Command Center.

Then start typing to start searching or enter a command. Or scroll down past your most recent items to view the full list of available Commands.

Home, Notifications, Pulse, and Goals

On the top left of your Sidebar, you can quickly access:

  • Home: View your most important tasks, events, and Reminders so you always know where your focus should be.

  • Notifications: Stay on top of the activity in your Workspace including task updates, Docs, comment threads, and more!

  • Pulse: View your entire team at a glance, so you can see who is online and what they're working on.

  • Goals: Create and track high-level objectives with targets to measure OKRs, Sprints, individual tasks on a project, and more.


Bookmark the Workspace locations you use the most with the Favorite setting to save more time!

The Hierarchy

The ClickUp Hierarchy is at the heart of the platform. The Hierarchy provides an organized way to break work down into easily managed actionable items for your whole team to collaborate.

The Sidebar allows you to:

Browse the Hierarchy

You can browse your Workspace's Hierarchy right from the Sidebar.

  • Click Everything to view all tasks in your entire Workspace.

  • Select Shared with Me to view tasks that have been shared with you from private Spaces.

  • Click each individual Space to expand it, revealing its Folders, Lists, and any Docs added to the Sidebar.

  • Click a Space, Folder, or List to open that location's default view of tasks.

Filter Spaces, Folders, and Lists

Use the filter to quickly refine the task Hierarchy in your Sidebar!

  1. Click the Search icon next to Spaces.

  2. Type in the name of your Space, Folder, or List to filter the Hierarchy.

  3. Click the Space, Folder, or List to open it.

  4. Clear the filter to reveal all your Spaces, Folders, and Lists.

Create and edit Spaces, Folders, and Lists

The Sidebar is the one place in ClickUp where you can create and edit Spaces, Folders, and Lists.

Hide Spaces

You can hide Spaces you don't use to stay focused on your team or department.

  1. Click the ellipses ... next to a Space.

  2. Click Hide in my sidebar.

Unhide Spaces

To unhide a Space:

  1. Click the Hidden Space section to expand it.

  2. Click the ellipses ... next to a hidden Space.

  3. Click Unhide in my sidebar.

Move tasks using drag and drop

Move tasks to different Lists by dragging and dropping them into their new location in the Sidebar!

See open tasks from the Sidebar

The number to the right of each List in your Sidebar represents the total number of tasks in a Not Started, Active, or Done status within that List. Closed tasks are not counted.

Dashboards are the best way to build high-level views of everything going on in your Workspace.

Create a visual representation of work for your entire team. You can track sprints, epics, high-level initiatives, projects, portfolio management, and more.


ClickUp Docs are effortlessly integrated with your tasks and projects, empowering your team to take action immediately and get work done faster.

The Resource Center

The resource center is available through the question mark icon in the lower-right corner of the Sidebar.

Your avatar menu

In the lower-left of the Sidebar is your avatar menu with access to ClickUp settings.

Members and guests will see user settings in their avatar menu. Workspace owners and admins will see a menu with Workspace settings.
