Write and edit with ClickUp AI

Write with AI allows you to enter custom prompts in multiple languages. What would you like AI to write about?

What you'll need

  • ClickUp AI is available for purchase on all paid plans.
    • We ensure optimal performance and fair use for all of our customers. Your access to ClickUp AI may be reduced depending on usage.
  • Free Forever plans can’t purchase AI.
  • All plans can access our free AI trial.
  • Members and internal guests can use AI. You'll be charged $5 per member and internal guest per month.
  • ClickUp AI is not available for HIPPA-compliant Workspaces.
  • ClickUp AI is not available in the following countries:
    • China
    • Cuba
    • Hong Kong
    • Iran
    • North Korea
    • Russia
    • Syria

Write with AI

Use AI to write about anything. Use clear, concise language and specify a format, List or blog post for example. 

Press theEsc key at any time to close the Write with AI modal. 

To write with AI:

  1. From a task or Doc, type /AI.
    This command opens the ClickUp AI modal where you can also access AI Tools. 
  2. From the modal, select Write with AI.
  3. Type your topic into the Write with AI modal.

  4. Click the Enter icon.
  5. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • Insert: Insert the content into your task or Doc. 
    • Edit Inputs: Edit the prompt you provided.
    • Try Again: Generate a different response from the same prompt. 
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Discard: Delete the content and close the Write with AI modal.
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction. 

Write an email with ClickUp AI

You can ask AI to write an email from a task comment. Learn more about how to use email in ClickUp.

To write an email with AI:

  1. Open a task.
  2. In the lower-right corner of the Activity section, click into the Comment field.
  3. Select the email icon.
  4. Type / for AI actions. 
  5. Select Write email.
  6. In the ClickUp AI modal, type a talking point.

  7. AI will generate an email.

Edit with ClickUp AI

After you've generated content using ClickUp AI, you can use the following options to edit AI's output:

  • Edit Inputs: Edit the prompt you provided.
  • Try Again: Generate a different response from the same prompt. 
  • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction. 

If you already have something drafted, you can use AI to polish it up, make it longer, summarize it and more. 

To edit with ClickUp AI:

  1. Paste the text into a location where you can use ClickUp AI.
  2. Select the text.
  3. From the text toolbar, select the AI icon.

  4. From the AI modal, choose from the following prompts:
Menu option Result
Edit with AI       Edits selected text based on a command you enter into the modal. 
Improve Writing Makes your content better, even if you don't know what's wrong. 
Fix spelling and grammar Returns correct spelling and grammar. 
Make longer Generates more content based on what you've written. 
Make shorter Returns more concise content. 
Simplify writing Returns easier-to-read content. 
Generate action items Returns a checklist of actionable items. 
Continue writing  Continues writing what you've started. 
Explain this Summarizes lengthy or complex content.
Summarize this  Generates a summary of what you've written. 
Translate Translates text into English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic.
